The project required testing of tree survivability when planted directly into the waste mass (no soil barrier on top of the waste). The waste is covered with a durable plastic cover; trees were planted directly through the cover and into waste.

This project is a demonstration of efficacy of the technology for clients and regulators at this landfill and others.

The project is successful thus far. Once final, site wide implementation is achieved, total landfill closure and long-term care costs will be reduced by at least 90% relative to other options evaluated for this site.
