| Asbestos refers to six naturally occurring fibrous minerals, including chrysotile, amosite, crocidolite, tremolite, anthophylite, and actinolite.
Asbestos has been used for hundreds of years and in thousands of products. Properties of asbestos which make it ideal for use in many different types of applications include its strength, its excellent insulating properties, and its resistance to fire and corrosion. Asbestos can still be found in many products purchased by consumers every day. Prior to demolition or renovation projects, all structures must be inspected for the presence of asbestos. The only exceptions to this rule are single residential structures with 4 or fewer dwelling units, unless these structures are part of a larger project. The Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services requires that any asbestos inspection be conducted by a DHFS Certified Asbestos Inspector. Brenda Halminiak, P.G., Project Manager with Sand Creek Consultants, Inc., is a certified asbestos inspector (Lic # AAI-113408 ) and can assist clients with their pre-renovation or pre-demolition asbestos inspection needs.
